Great post Paul!
your story is very similar to mine, and probably everyone elses. The difference is I saw Tony Furtado play at the park downtown (Sufjan is cool, but he hasn’t come to our small town that I know of.) He rocked the bluegrass banjo and slide guitar and I was captivated. I don’t think I ever saw anyone play a banjo in person before then. I struggled with learning the three-finger technique from a book, then started looking for videos on youtube to learn from and saw that same video “Frailing Banjo lesson one” and gave that a shot and haven’t looked back.

I really hope I can jam with Pat & Patrick some day, that must have been so cool.
